Carbon Zero Challenge - A Renewable Energy Contest conducted by IITM and US Consulate

Introduction

IIT Madras in collaboration with US Consulate had conducted a renewable energy innovation contest " Carbon Zero Challenge" for the students and startups across South India. The main objective of CZC is to recognize and nurture original solutions and enable them to reach a stage of market scalability. EAI had an opportunity to be a knowledge partner and was the core marketing team for the entire duration of the project.

Total applications received - more than 500

After preliminary screening, 54 teams were selected and asked to pitch their project presentations. 

From this, for the second phase, 25 teams were selected and given funding for developing their prototypes. The teams were paired with relevant mentors who guided and motivated them in building a prototype which went on over a period of 6 months.

Finally, on the Demo Day, the participants showcased their prototypes which were judged by industry experts and top 5 teams were selected and given cash prizes.

Tools & Technologies

Website, Email campaign marketing, social media, promotional messages and Whatsapp were some of the tools which were effective in making this event a grand success.

Methodology/Approach

Detailed marketing strategy was put down. Each team member was given a responsibility to accomplish a task. Focused approach and team work helped in making this event a success.

Results & Inferences

Top 25 teams were selected and given 6 months to build their prototypes. Mentors guided and motivated them to build their innovative ideas to prototypes. The event culminated in a Demo day, where the participants showcased their work. Panelists judged the working models and selected top 5 teams who were presented with cash awards.
